List of starting points within about 40 miles of York

If you are thinking about offering a led walk please contact Steve Hoather. If you would like some ideas for where to start from, there are currently 338 starting points we have used recently. Here are links to two tools that might help you to make use of this resource:

  1. Interactive map page listing and displaying the locations of recent Wednesday walks. From this webpage there are links to routes that have been walked and photographs, taken along the routes.

  2. New browser page This list shows the starting points that have been used over the past few years. The list is organized by OS grid square, namely NZ, SE, TA and SD. For each starting point the following entries are given:
    • the distance (in miles as the crow flies) from the centre of York;
    • a link to a Bing map showing the starting point (B) on the OS Explorer (25K) map and the option to calculate a route to the start from your home
    • a link is to a "Where's the Path" split screen map showing the OS Landranger (50K) map and the satellite image. The advantage of this tool is that it is easy for you to explore the feasibility of routes by plotting the route on the map. The length of the route is displayed and the route can be saved as a gpx file. You can also upload gpx files.

  3. Downloads: PDF document or Excel spreadsheet These links let you download the lists. As above following entries are given:
